Aftercare
Tattoos have long since become socially acceptable; these colorful body art pieces are simply hip. Care and gentle handling of the affected skin areas are important to prevent infections and ensure lasting enjoyment of your permanent body art. Read on to learn what you should know about proper tattoo aftercare.

The first day
You gritted your teeth and got it done – now you can finally look proudly at your tattoo. Healing is now your top priority. To prevent germs from entering the wound, the tattoo artist applies a disinfectant ointment to the injured skin. Then they cover it with a sterile, breathable film or bandage.
You should remove this covering after at least 4 days. At that point, the question arises: What does a fresh tattoo need? The answer is care, care, and more care. To prevent scabs from forming, experts recommend moist wound healing , which means keeping the wound constantly moist by regularly cleaning and applying cream (2 to 3 times a day).
For this type of tattoo aftercare, gently wash the wound with lukewarm water and unscented soap using previously cleaned and disinfected hands. Then carefully pat it dry with a lint-free cloth. Afterwards, apply a thin layer of a disinfectant wound and healing ointment from the pharmacy to the injured skin.
You can also use a special tattoo ointment, which you can usually buy at the tattoo studio. Generally, you should use a cream with a low oil content. Too much oil can soften the skin and cause the tattoo colors to run.
healing process
Depending on its size, a freshly inked tattoo needs between three weeks and up to three months to heal completely. Proper tattoo aftercare during this time is crucial to prevent complications. Gently wash the skin two to three times a day and disinfect the wound with an ointment or tattoo cream.
Scabbing, redness, swelling, or other skin irritations are normal during the first week. Scabbing may even take longer to clear up. If your tattoo becomes inflamed due to a plaster allergy or everyday germs, please stop using all creams immediately and get antiseptic Bepanthen or a cortisone ointment like Ebenol from the pharmacy and apply it until the inflammation is completely gone. After treatment, everything should be back to normal.
Otherwise, you should observe the following instructions for tattoo care during the healing process:
Do not scratch under any circumstances, even if the skin itches during the healing process. This will prevent scarring .
To prevent infection, ensure that neither dust nor dirt gets into the wound.
Wear lint-free clothing and avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes and jewelry directly on the affected area of skin.
Protect your fresh tattoo: Sun and visits to tanning salons are taboo in the first few weeks, as the UV light irritates the sensitive skin.
Avoid saunas and hot baths with a fresh tattoo; showering, however, is no problem.
Chlorinated water is harmful to your tattoo. Therefore, you should avoid swimming pools during the healing process.

Special care
Even years after getting a tattoo, the skin remains more sensitive, especially to UV radiation, and therefore still requires special tattoo care. Penetrating sunlight can not only lead to sunburn more quickly, but can also draw the color pigments out of the dermis .
Over time, the tattoo outlines become blurry and the colors fade. In such cases, a touch-up is often the only way to refresh the tattoo. It's better to adequately protect tattooed skin from the sun in the first place.
Anyone who exposes their tattoos to the sun should therefore choose a sunscreen with an extra high sun protection factor.
Additionally, you can care for your colorful body art daily with a moisturizing cream. This will keep your tattoos sharp, vibrant, and supple for a long time.
